Wood Valley is a lush crescent shaped forest tucked away on the southern slopes of Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is paradise only few will experience. Your destination becomes a journey through a mystical forest with deep ravines carved into the raw earth to expose the naked lava floor. The fertile soils and cool climate nurture an array of exotic plants as well as coffee and macadamia nut farms. There is something new to discover around every bend, every tree, and every leaf. It is that inquisitive curiosity that will keep you coming back.

Besides the secluded jungle appeal, it is one of the most livable climates on the Big Island of Hawaii. Warm sunny mornings will greet the day with an occasional afternoon shower and cool evenings for a good night sleep. The elevation is approximately at 2400 feet. Temperatures can drop to the low 60’s so you will want to pack your fleece for the cool nights. Another benefit of our mountain hideaway is you will not be bothered by those irritating tropical 'bugs'. Of course you will find insects such as spiders, but no torpedo cockroaches to dodge and no swarming mosquitoes to swat. Nature is alive here. This you will truly appreciate while visiting the island.

The historic town of Pahala is only 5 minutes away. Many of the plantation homes have been delightfully restored to their original charm. There you will find a small grocery store, video store, post office, laundry mat, a gas station and hospital. Tex Drive-In is open to serve local plate lunches and their famous malasadas (donuts). Everything you will need is easily available.

Even though you are in a world of your own, you can rest assure that there will be someone there to help if needed. Our friends, family and neighbors have all come together to make this possible for us and for you. With their help we can provide you with a clean and comfortable place to spend your vacation without a care!

Witness an active volcano

Never thought I would be able to experience Hawaii in this fashion. Felt like home. If you want quiet and beautiful foliage as far as the eye can see, this is the place. I would advise people visiting the volcano to listen to Park advice, during heavy activity, regarding inhaling fumes. The Island holds wonderous adventures everywhere. The villages are special also. The Big Island offers cool evenings enough for a sweat shirt and warm beautiful waters. Can't say enough so you should experience for yourself. Mahalo

Swim with the gentle sea turtle at Punalu'u Black Sand Beach 15 minutes away

We spent a week in this perfect cottage nestled in lovely Wood Valley in early April. Everything about the cottage - the quiet location, the comfy bed, the garden full of wonderful fruit trees and colorful flowers, the friendly neighbors - was just what we hoped for. The cottage is very well equipped - it truly has every convenience you could want. The owners want your vacation to be perfect and go out of their way to make it so. Ka'u Valley coffee - best ever!! And, grown right across the street by the property manager. Can't recommend it highly enough!!

Jump for joy... you found Your own Secret Hideaway!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing week at beautiful Hale Aloha Aina. We felt pampered in the home and setting, off the beaten path, enjoyed the incredible night sky, and refreshed after an incredible eight days there. This home is in between Hilo and Kona so we spent time exploring those settings as well as the south coast. The air quality was great but it is the rainy side so we saw more clouds than the north coast folks, I'm sure. But the rain makes this setting lush and beautiful. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing a quiet break. We'll go again and recommended this to several of our friends. Bob and Jolene
